President Trump Voices Concern Over New York City Mayoral Race
Washington D.C. – President Donald Trump has expressed serious concerns about the direction of New York City, particularly regarding the upcoming mayoral election. In a recent discussion, he suggested that the city might be on track to elect a mayor with far-left, “communist” ideologies.
President Trump did not offer an endorsement of Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa but emphasized the importance of conservative principles in governance, particularly in a city as prominent as New York.
He highlighted the potential negative impact of a mayor with extreme left-wing views, pointing out the historical failures of such ideologies. “It’s been done many times, a thousand years. It’s never worked once. So it’s not going to work now.”
The President’s remarks come as polls indicate a significant lead for Democratic socialist nominee Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani’s platform includes policies that worry many, such as increased taxes on successful individuals and businesses.
President Trump acknowledged the possibility of engaging with Mamdani if he were elected, stating, “I think I have an obligation to speak to him.” However, he also voiced his deep concern for the future of New York City, lamenting its decline under progressive leadership. He recalled when he “left New York, and we had a mayor, [Bill] de Blasio, who was a disaster… New York was a hot city. And now it’s — it’s sad to see what’s happening, frankly.”
The mayoral election is scheduled for November 4th.
