California’s Gavin Newsom is at it again, folks. He’s proposing a 100% tax on any Californian who receives money from President Trump’s new Anti-Weaponization Fund, and it’s pure, unadulterated political theater.
Here’s what you need to know, fast:
- Newsom wants to tax money from Trump’s fund.
- Critics call the fund a “boondoggle.”
- Newsom himself has a history of “slush funds.”
Newsom’s Hypocritical Tax Grab
Newsom claims this fund, meant to help those unfairly targeted, could reward January 6th rioters. He paints a picture of Trump “rewarding” people who “beat up cops.” Seriously? This is the same guy who oversaw billions in questionable COVID-19 contracts given to his buddies.
He called out Trump’s pardons and the Anti-Weaponization fund on X (formerly Twitter). Yet, his own record in California is riddled with financial shenanigans. The hypocrisy is thick enough to cut with a knife.
The California Slush Fund Playbook
Let’s not forget the $25 million “legal fund” Newsom created to fight the Trump administration, which Republicans rightfully labeled a “slush fund.” And what about those no-bid COVID-19 contracts? Remember the Kaiser Health News investigation that found billions flowing to firms tied to donors and political allies? This is how the California swamp operates.
The state’s emergency procurement system allowed these deals to happen with little oversight. So, Newsom is throwing stones from a glass house, and a very expensive one at that. California’s taxpayers are getting fleeced left and right.
California’s Fiscal Black Hole
Newsom’s tax proposal comes as California faces a whopping $2.9 billion budget shortfall by 2027. The state’s high-speed rail project, a complete disaster, is estimated to cost $128 billion with barely any track laid. Let’s not forget that wildlife bridge running $21 million over budget – a “bridge to nowhere,” as one transportation secretary aptly put it.
Where is all of California’s money going? It sure ain’t going to the average Californian, that’s for sure. It’s being funneled into these pointless projects and these so-called “slush funds.”
Why is Newsom so desperate to block this money from reaching the people Trump’s fund intends to help? Is it really about January 6th, or is it about silencing those who might challenge the left’s narrative?
