New Jersey Governor Race Heats Up Over Taxes
The race for governor in New Jersey is focusing on how to make the state more affordable for families. Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli is criticizing his Democratic opponent, Representative Mikie Sherrill, for not ruling out a possible increase in the state’s sales tax.
During a recent debate, Ciattarelli promised he would not raise the sales tax. But when Sherrill was asked the same question, she said she wasn’t ready to make any promises.
Ciattarelli quickly pointed out Sherrill’s hesitation. He says New Jersey families can’t afford Sherrill’s policies.
Both candidates say they want to help with the rising costs in New Jersey. Electricity bills are expected to go up, adding to the financial strain on families.
Sherrill has said she wants to stop utility rate increases. However, she didn’t promise to keep the sales tax as it is.
Ciattarelli says the real problem is that the state government is too big and spends too much. He says he will cut the size and cost of government to allow for tax cuts for everyone. He believes the state should lower income and property taxes, which he says are a heavy burden on people.
Ciattarelli’s campaign is working to show that he will not raise the sales tax. He says the other side is trying to scare voters. He promises to keep taxes low and help New Jersey families thrive.
