Freshman Republican Senator Bernie Moreno is reflecting on his first 100 days in office, expressing his hopes for the GOP’s actions moving forward. After defeating longtime Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown in the recent elections, Moreno has hit the ground running, co-sponsoring 67 bills and introducing eight new proposals.
“It’s been a whirlwind,” Moreno said. He emphasized the importance of urgency in Congress, aligning with the fast-paced approach of former President Trump. “Voters expect us to work quickly,” he added.
Moreno highlighted his key legislation, particularly the Transportation Freedom Act, aimed at stabilizing the auto industry amid challenging federal regulations. “The current administration’s policies make it difficult for car manufacturers to know what standards they need to meet,” he explained. His proposal seeks to establish a single set of national standards for the next decade, helping to reduce automobile costs.
The topic of illegal immigration remains a priority for Moreno, who is keen on passing his Rules Act to reform the asylum system, which he believes is an issue that resonates strongly with a majority of Americans.
Since taking office, Moreno has been active in reaching out to constituents across Ohio, engaging with locals in all 88 counties and hosting numerous events to connect with voters. He criticized his predecessor’s lack of accomplishments, stating, “We just want to get stuff done,” indicating his commitment to being a productive member of the Senate.
Moving forward, Moreno aims to push for key legislative changes, including maintaining important social programs while still managing costs. He pointed out the need to reassess foreign aid spending, suggesting that the billions earmarked for such programs could be better spent addressing domestic needs.
Overall, Moreno’s vision for the next 100 days involves a focused agenda that aligns with conservative values while striving to ensure that Americans’ interests are prioritized. As Moreno looks ahead, he believes there is a significant opportunity for the GOP to enact meaningful changes that benefit the American people.
