In a victory for national security, the FBI has successfully disrupted a potential terror attack planned in Michigan, allegedly inspired by ISIS. Six individuals have now been charged in connection with the plot, highlighting the continued threat posed by radical Islamic extremism within our borders.

Earlier in the week, authorities announced charges against two 19-year-olds from Montclair, New Jersey: Tomas Kaan Jimenez-Guzel and Milo Sedanet. Jimenez-Guzel, a college freshman, is accused of conspiring to provide material support to a designated terrorist organization. Sedanet faces charges of transmitting interstate threats and using foreign commerce to do so.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, Jimenez-Guzel was arrested at Newark International Airport as he attempted to board a flight to Istanbul. Investigators believe Jimenez-Guzel and Mirreh, the suspect arrested in Washington, used encrypted messaging apps to meticulously plan their travel to Turkey and then Syria, with the intention of joining ISIS fighters.
Habba stated that the suspects discussed detailed travel arrangements, physical training, weapons, including firearms and IEDs, and methods to evade law enforcement. They pledged allegiance to ISIS and were allegedly planning acts of terrorism within the United States.
Ayob Nasser, 19, from Dearborn, Michigan, was also charged this week. All three Michigan men are accused of conspiring to provide material support to ISIS and possessing firearms intended for use in terrorist acts on behalf of the group.
