Following the recent action in Venezuela, Senator Tim Kaine is pushing for Congress to have more say in military decisions made by the President.
Many Democrats in Congress are not happy that President Trump ordered action in Venezuela, including the capture of President Maduro, without first getting their approval. They feel that Congress has been left out of important decisions since President Trump took office.
Senator Kaine believes the Constitution gives Congress the power to decide on military actions. He wants Congress to publicly discuss whether the United States should get involved in another conflict.
Senator Kaine is introducing a resolution that would require Congress to approve any further military actions in Venezuela.
Senator Schumer, along with Senators Kaine and Paul, are also sponsors of this resolution and have expressed concern about President Trump’s actions, stating Congress should have to sign off before military involvement. He mentioned that some Republicans have also privately expressed unease.
