Israel to Deploy New Laser Defense System, Boosting Security
Israel is getting ready to use a new laser air-defense system. This system, called Iron Beam, is one of the first of its kind and will help protect the country from rockets and drones.
Yoav Turgeman, the head of Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, said that the Iron Beam has passed all tests and is now being given to the Israeli Air Force.
The Iron Beam works by using a beam of light to destroy rockets and drones. This is a big step forward in defense technology because it is cheaper and more accurate than traditional methods.
“The cost to stop something is very low,” Turgeman said. “Also, because there is no leftover debris, there is less risk of damage to other things around.”
With the Iron Beam, Israel is leading the way in using lasers for defense. This system will work with other defense systems like Iron Dome to provide even better protection.
Rafael is working with Lockheed Martin to make parts for the Iron Beam. This shows how important it is for America and Israel to work together on defense.
The U.S. is also looking at building its own missile defense system, similar to Israel’s Iron Dome. Turgeman said that the technologies used in Iron Dome and Iron Beam could help protect America.
Even though things are calmer in the Middle East right now, Israel is still focused on staying safe. Rafael has increased its research to make sure Israel stays ahead in defense technology.
“The best way to avoid war is to make sure our enemies don’t want to attack us,” Turgeman said.
Rafael also showed off a new weapon called L-Spike, which is like a drone that can quickly reach a target and wait for permission to strike. This weapon is designed to work even if the enemy tries to interfere with electronic signals.
“The system can find the target on its own, but a person must approve the attack,” Turgeman said. “A single person can control several of these systems, but the final decision is always made by a human.”
