A woman from France, who is 39 years old, has been arrested in Switzerland. She is accused of setting fire to the place she was renting and may be connected to the disappearance of her 75-year-old landlord.
On Saturday, November 1st, authorities in France found a man’s body near the Saône River. The body was in bad shape. While they haven’t officially said who it is yet, they think it might be the landlord who was reported missing from a Swiss village.
Police arrested the woman who was renting from the missing man. He was reported missing on Friday, October 31st. Two days later, on Sunday, November 2nd, the place where she was staying caught fire. She was caught by Swiss customs officers soon after.
Authorities said she was questioned about the fire and is being held while they investigate. They also think she might have something to do with her landlord’s disappearance. For now, they are saying she is innocent until proven guilty.
The arrest happened the day after a man’s body was found in a small village in France. The village where the missing man and the woman lived is about 62 miles away from where the body was found.
When the body was found, it was only wearing underwear and had been cut in half. It was also covered in a white substance.
The man’s body had several injuries, including burns on his back, wounds on his head, hand, neck, and body.
The injuries on his hands suggest he was trying to defend himself. Some of the wounds look like they were made with a sharp object. The first results from the autopsy show that he may have died from losing too much blood because of a stab wound in his chest.
The mayor of the French village where the body was found said that he had never seen anything like this before.
Local police in Switzerland said they will not be sharing any more information about the case right now.
