Senator Raises Concerns Over Trump Campaign Investigation
Washington, D.C. – Senator Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, has made public a Justice Department memo from April 2022. The memo reveals that top officials in the Biden administration, including Attorney General Merrick Garland, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, and FBI Director Christopher Wray, approved an FBI investigation into the Trump campaign.
The investigation, known as “Arctic Frost,” focused on alleged efforts by individuals connected to Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign to obstruct the certification of the Electoral College votes on January 6, 2021.
Senator Grassley voiced strong concerns about the investigation, suggesting it represents an overreach of government power. He stated that his oversight work on this matter will continue.
The memo greenlit the FBI’s Washington Field Office to explore whether Trump campaign associates conspired to submit fraudulent certificates of electors from states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and Wisconsin, purportedly in an attempt to disrupt the electoral process.
The revelation of this memo has fueled concerns among some conservatives regarding the fairness and impartiality of investigations targeting political opponents. They argue that it raises questions about the potential for politically motivated actions within the Justice Department.
It’s important to note that this investigation occurred before the appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith, who later took over related inquiries. The memo appears to highlight an early phase of the Justice Department’s scrutiny of the “fake electors” issue.
