Coast Guard Veteran Arrested for Threatening President Trump
A former Coast Guard lieutenant, Peter Stinson, has been arrested for making threats against President Donald Trump. The charges, detailed in court documents, highlight alarming online statements attributed to Stinson, who served in the Coast Guard from 1988 until 2021.
According to an FBI affidavit, Stinson allegedly made various threatening comments across social media that included violent imagery and references to firearms, poisoning, and knives. His threats escalated to a disturbing remark about needing to "Luigi" Trump, which references a violent incident from the past year.
Although Stinson expressed doubts about his skills to carry out such threats, he also indicated he might not be completely honest about this, raising concerns about his intentions. The FBI has linked these threats to prior violent threats made against Trump, including references to a controversial post by former FBI Director James Comey.
Stinson has self-identified as a member of ANTIFA and has recorded posts that imply a willingness to resort to violence, indicating that he believes there is a "war" between sides, with ANTIFA ultimately prevailing.
He is expected to appear in federal court soon to address the charges. This situation serves as a reminder of the ongoing threats faced by public figures, further emphasizing the divisions present in today’s political climate and the urgent need for discourse that seeks to unify rather than incite violence.
