Hikers Safe After Everest Snowstorm
BEIJING – Hundreds of hikers, along with their guides and support staff, are safe after being stuck on the Chinese side of Mount Everest due to a sudden snowstorm. Reports say that around 900 people were caught off guard by the severe weather over the weekend.
The storm made it hard to get to the area where the hikers were, as it hit an area where they were staying in tents, high up the mountain.
Local officials acted quickly to help those stranded. They report that almost everyone has been brought to safety. Some hikers were treated for being very cold, and teams were sent to help with supplies like food and medicine.
The area on Mount Everest has been closed for now. This comes as many Chinese citizens are traveling during a week-long holiday.
