New files related to the Jeffrey Epstein case were recently made public, but some have already been removed. These files are part of an investigation into Epstein, who was accused of serious crimes.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) released thousands of files after a new law required them to share all documents related to the Epstein investigations. However, shortly after the release, some files disappeared from the DOJ website.
One of the missing files included a photo of Donald Trump. A top official from the DOJ, Todd Blanche, explained that the files were taken down to protect the privacy and rights of victims.
Blanche mentioned that a judge had asked them to listen to any concerns from victims or groups supporting victims about the released materials. If there were worries about photos of women who might not be victims, or if they didn’t have enough information about them, the photos were removed. The DOJ might blur faces or remove other information before putting the files back online.
Blanche also addressed concerns about releasing all the files at once. He said the law requires them to protect victims, so they need time to carefully review the documents.
The released files contained a variety of documents and photos. The DOJ said they are working to release more materials as they continue their review, while still protecting victims.
Epstein passed away in jail in 2019 while waiting for his trial.
