A disagreement over a simple “thank you” may have led to a tragic death in Dallas.
Cecilia Simpson, a 41-year-old woman, was shot and killed in a parking lot on Tuesday, October 7. Police say the shooting happened after an argument with 22-year-old Keona Zachyua Hampton. Hampton has been arrested and charged with murder.
The trouble started after Simpson held the door open for Hampton at a store. When Hampton didn’t say thank you, words were exchanged.
Simpson and her daughter then went to a nearby PetSmart. Police say Hampton followed them and the argument continued inside the store. Employees asked all three to leave.
Outside, the argument escalated. A witness said Hampton was challenging Simpson and her daughter to a fight. Hampton allegedly threw a drink at Simpson’s car. The argument turned physical, and Simpson reportedly hit Hampton.
Police arrived to find Simpson shot. She was taken to a hospital but died from her injuries.
Hampton was arrested and, according to police, admitted to the shooting. She is currently in jail.
Authorities are still investigating the case.
