Several Democratic representatives from Connecticut recently received bomb threats at their homes on Thanksgiving Day. The targeted lawmakers included Reps. Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, Joe Courtney, and John Larson. Fortunately, authorities found no evidence supporting these threats.
Rep. Jim Himes, who serves as the highest-ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, shared that he was informed of the bomb threat while celebrating Thanksgiving with his family. He expressed relief after a comprehensive response from law enforcement confirmed that there was no bomb at his residence.
Himes commented on the situation, stating, “There is no place for political violence in this country, and I hope that we may all continue through the holiday season with peace and civility.” His sentiments reflect a broader hope for unity during challenging times.
Rep. Jahana Hayes also reported a similar experience, stating that the Wolcott Police Department notified her of a threatening email indicating that a pipe bomb had been placed in her mailbox. Again, law enforcement quickly responded and cleared the area without discovering any threat.
Both Himes and Hayes thanked law enforcement for their swift actions, underscoring the message that political violence should have no place in American society.
Spokespeople for the other targeted representatives confirmed that no bombs were found at their properties either, emphasizing that such threats will not be tolerated. A representative for Joe Courtney expressed gratitude to the law enforcement agencies involved, stating their response should send a clear message to anyone considering similar intimidation tactics.
These threats come on the heels of alarming warnings directed at several of President-elect Trump’s Cabinet nominees and appointees. Reports indicate that these individuals faced a range of threats, from bomb threats to other forms of harassment.
Rep. John Larson mentioned that East Hartford Police visited his home in response to a bomb scare, and like his colleagues, he confirmed that no bomb was present.
