Cardinals Snap Losing Streak with Victory Over Cowboys
ARLINGTON, Texas — In a much-needed turnaround, the Arizona Cardinals celebrated a victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, ending a tough five-game losing streak. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett stepped up, throwing for two touchdowns and running for another as the Cardinals secured a 27-17 win.
With Kyler Murray still sidelined due to a foot injury, many expected Murray to return following the team’s bye week. However, Coach Jonathan Gannon announced that he wasn’t quite ready, leaving Brissett to guide the team once more. This victory marked a significant moment, as it’s only the second win for the Cardinals in their last 18 games when Murray was either absent or did not play much at all.
Brissett, now making his third straight start, completed 21 of 31 passes for 261 yards without throwing an interception, adding up to six touchdown passes in three games. “I’m just trying to go out here and win games and be a good teammate. That’s all I can ask for,” Brissett said, displaying a humble approach.
The Cowboys, aiming to build on their recent successes, faced difficulties despite a promising start. They managed to block a punt, leading to a quick score, but quickly fell behind, allowing long drives that culminated in touchdowns for the Cardinals. Dallas struggled with their execution, particularly on critical fourth-down attempts, finishing 0 for 3 in those situations.
Dak Prescott, the Cowboys’ quarterback, threw for a modest 250 yards and ended the night with just one touchdown pass, a stark contrast to the team’s typically potent offense. “We’ve got to figure out how we need to improve in all phases of the game,” Prescott acknowledged, expressing frustration over their sluggish performance.
As the season progresses, questions linger about the Cowboys’ ability to rebound, especially with injuries impacting their roster. Meanwhile, the Cardinals look to maintain this momentum as they head to Seattle for their next matchup.
Both teams will need to reevaluate their strategies moving forward, but for now, the Cardinals can relish in their hard-fought win.
