The “WWE NXT” versus TNA special, initially scheduled to air next week opposite AEW’s Battle of the Belts special, is reportedly undergoing a name change. Sources indicate the program, originally branded as “Invasion” with visual elements reminiscent of the 2001 WCW/WWE storyline, will now be called “Showdown.”
The shift in title may be attributed to external concerns. A social media post cited a report from Sky News Arabia, suggesting that the initial title, coinciding with October 7, had caused offense in Israel.
October 7 marks a day of remembrance in Israel, commemorating the anniversary of the 2023 attacks by Hamas, which resulted in a significant loss of life and hostage situations. The event led to a substantial military response in Gaza. The selection of “Invasion” as the event’s name on this particular date was described by the publication Israel Hayom as displaying “extreme insensitivity.”
While WWE hasn’t made an official statement regarding the name change, an announcement is anticipated.
The special event promises two matches with the “Survivor Series” theme and title-for-title matches, including both promotions’ tag team championships and world titles.
