Wolfgang Van Halen, son of the legendary Eddie Van Halen and actress Valerie Bertinelli, is sharing his thoughts on being labeled a “nepo baby.”
In a recent interview, Wolfgang expressed that the term feels “a bit unfair.” This label is often used for children of famous people who many believe get ahead because of their family connections.
Wolfgang, who joined his father’s famous rock band Van Halen at 15, taking over as bassist, toured with them until his father’s passing in 2020. The band ended after Eddie Van Halen’s death.
He also mentioned Jack Quaid, son of actors Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, asking who decides who are the “good ones” when it comes to those with famous parents.
While acknowledging that some individuals might unfairly benefit from their family’s name, Wolfgang hopes people see his own hard work and artistic merit. He’s focused on creating his own legacy and voice in the music world.
Wolfgang has been working hard to make his own mark. He released his first solo album, “Mammoth WVH,” playing all the instruments himself. He’s also performed with Ryan Gosling on stage and continues to write new music.
Remembering his father, Wolfgang says it’s hard to accept his passing. He misses sharing his life and accomplishments with him, especially the success of his band Mammoth and his marriage.
Despite the sadness, Wolfgang feels his father’s pride and support, along with the love from his mother and wife, helps him overcome insecurities and continue to pursue his musical dreams.
