Skier Lindsey Vonn Injured During Olympic Downhill Race
Veteran United States skier Lindsey Vonn sustained a leg fracture in a fall during the women’s downhill race at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics on Sunday. The 41-year-old athlete, who was already competing with a torn ACL, had to be taken off the mountain by helicopter following the incident.
Vonn shared an update on her condition via Instagram on Monday, expressing her disappointment that her Olympic journey concluded in this way.
In her post, she wrote that her “Olympic dream did not finish the way I dreamt it would.”
She acknowledged the unpredictable nature of downhill ski racing, noting the fine line between success and serious injury.
“It wasn’t a story book ending or a fairy (tale), it was just life,” her detailed caption read. I dared to dream and had worked so hard to achieve it. Because in Downhill ski racing the difference between a strategic line and a catastrophic injury can be as small as 5 inches.”
The extent of Vonn’s injury and the expected recovery time remain to be seen. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
