Ukraine’s “Dancing with the Stars” Returns, Honors Wounded Heroes
KYIV, Ukraine – A special episode of Ukraine’s “Dancing with the Stars,” a popular television show, has aired, showcasing the strength and spirit of the Ukrainian people. The episode features Ukrainian heroes, including wounded veterans, as the stars of the show.
Many remember when current President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, then an actor, won the competition in 2006, the show’s first year.
This special episode highlights the challenges faced by Ukrainians, including those who have suffered injuries during the ongoing conflict. Dancers with prosthetic limbs performed, demonstrating their resilience and determination. The show also featured public figures who have become prominent since Russia’s war in Ukraine began in 2022.
Like many things in Ukraine today, producing the show has been difficult. Frequent power outages and the constant threat of attacks have presented challenges.
All money raised by the show will go to the Superhumans Center, a clinic that helps those wounded in the war.
Creative producer Volodymyr Zavadiuk said that the show represents the resilience and future of Ukraine.
One of the performers was Ruslana Danilkina, a war veteran who lost her leg in 2022. She has dedicated herself to helping other injured soldiers.
Dmytro Dikusar, a former dancer on the show, returned as a judge, balancing his time between filming and serving with his unit on the front lines.
The show reminds everyone that even in times of conflict, the human spirit can endure and even thrive.
