The two victims, a 2-year-old girl and her 9-year-old brother, succumbed to what authorities suspect was hyperthermia as they sought shelter in their family’s vehicle.
The somber discovery took place on Monday afternoon when the children’s mother realized her older son was not breathing. The children were pronounced dead shortly thereafter, as revealed by interim police Chief Todd Bettison during a press briefing.
