Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has once again turned down a U.S. suggestion to move Palestinians from Gaza. He insisted that Israel should take responsibility for the destruction it has caused and should help with rebuilding efforts.
During a visit to Malaysia, Erdogan commented, “We do not take the idea of forcing Palestinians to abandon their historic lands seriously.” He emphasized that no one has the right to make the Palestinian people face another tragedy like the Nakba, which refers to the large-scale displacement that occurred during the 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict.
Erdogan, who is currently on a tour that includes Malaysia, Indonesia, and Pakistan, pointed out the extensive damage in Gaza. He urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration to seek financial resources to cover what he described as a $100 billion damage bill, rather than contemplating relocating the people of Gaza.
