Texas and Penn State are making headlines as the top two teams in the preseason college football rankings. Each team saw three players named to the preseason AP All-America team, which was revealed on Monday.
Leading the charge for Texas, ranked first, are edge rusher Colin Simmons, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., and safety Michael Taaffe. Penn State, sitting at number two, has running back Nicholas Singleton, offensive lineman Olaivavega Ioane, and defensive lineman Zane Durant recognized for their outstanding talent.
Other notable teams include Ohio State and Clemson, each placing two players on the first team, as well as Notre Dame, Alabama, and Pittsburgh. The Southeastern Conference continues to dominate with 12 representatives on the 27-man first team. The Big Ten and ACC followed with seven and four players, respectively, while the Big 12 added two.
Clemson’s Cade Klubnik has been named the standout preseason quarterback after an impressive season with 3,639 yards, 39 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. Ohio State’s Caleb Downs, who made a pivotal interception against Texas in last season’s playoffs, is also among the first-team All-Americans. Joining him is Florida’s center, Jake Slaughter, who is being recognized for his exceptional performance both in run blocking and pass protection last season.
As the season unfolds, the anticipation builds for the formal AP All-America team announcement in December, which marks the 100th anniversary of its inception in 1925.
With top talents emerging and showcasing their skills, the stage is set for an exciting college football season ahead.
