Myles Garrett Chasing NFL History
Cleveland Browns defensive star Myles Garrett is close to reaching a major milestone in his career. He is just a half-sack away from tying the single-season sack record held jointly by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt.
Garrett, who is 29 years old, expressed that it would be “special” to break the record while playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“It would be special. [Steelers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers] is legendary himself, and it’s a legendary record I’m out here chasing. So that’d be a great one to put a picture on the wall with,” Garrett said.
Sacking the quarterback is a key play in football where the defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage before he can throw a pass. It’s a significant achievement for a defensive player, showing their ability to disrupt the opponent’s offense.
Garrett also spoke about the challenges of sacking Rodgers, known for his quick passes. He emphasized the importance of stopping those quick throws and forcing Rodgers to consider other options.
“Gotta take away those easy access throws, make him look at his second read, and he’s gotta keep rushing. There’ll be (opportunities) if we continue to get stops during the game, and he can’t continue to lean on those quick passes, when you gotta score points,” Garrett explained.
The Browns, with a current record of 3-12, are scheduled to play against the Steelers. For the Steelers, a win against the Browns would secure the AFC North title and guarantee them a spot in the playoffs.
Garrett shared his hope that the Browns can win the game. He wants to achieve the record in a winning effort.
“Yeah, I just play. I want to get it, and you know, like I said, I want to win while doing it. And I think we have the guys who are locked in who want to do that as well,” Garrett said.
When asked about the pressure of chasing the record, Garrett downplayed it.
“Pressure? Nah, no pressure. Like I said, it’s going down. So, I’m not stressed or worried about if I’m going to get it. Just a matter of when,” Garrett stated confidently.
Myles Garrett has become one of the most prominent pass rushers in the NFL since he was drafted as the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Throughout his career, he has achieved an impressive 124.5 sacks in 132 games.
His pursuit of the record adds extra excitement to the upcoming game.
