The Houston Texans are facing a tough start to the football season, with a recent loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars bringing their record to 0-3. The game, played in Jacksonville, saw the Texans struggle to find their rhythm on offense, ultimately falling 17-10 to their division rivals.
This marks the Texans’ worst start since 2020, when they lost their first four games and only managed to win four games that season. In 2022, they didn’t secure a win until Week 5, highlighting the team’s recent struggles to find early success.
In their first two games of this season, the Texans showed glimpses of promise. They narrowly lost to the Los Angeles Rams by five points in Week 1 and had a chance to win late in the game. The following week, they held the lead against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers until a late surge by Tampa Bay resulted in a narrow 20-19 defeat.
However, the game against the Jaguars was a different story. Quarterback C.J. Stroud completed 25 of 38 passes for 204 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. One of his interceptions occurred early in the fourth quarter when the Texans were in a promising position to tie the game.
The Texans’ offense struggled to sustain drives in the first half, with only two drives that didn’t end quickly. Their second drive resulted in a missed field goal. They did manage to get on the scoreboard with a field goal in the second quarter.
The Jaguars took the lead in the first quarter with a touchdown run. They extended their lead with a field goal after halftime. After Stroud’s interception, the Jaguars failed to capitalize, giving the Texans another chance. Stroud then connected with Nico Collins for a 50-yard touchdown pass, tying the game.
However, after the Jaguars failed to convert on fourth down, Collins fumbled the ball away, costing the Texans a chance to score. Later, a long pass from Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence set up a touchdown run, putting the Jaguars back in the lead.
Stroud led the Texans down the field again, but his pass was deflected and intercepted, sealing the victory for Jacksonville.
Lawrence completed 20 of 40 passes for 222 yards with an interception. The Jaguars’ running game contributed a touchdown, and their receivers made some important catches.
For the Texans, running back Nick Chubb had 38 rushing yards. Wide receiver Nico Collins had a strong performance with 104 receiving yards and a touchdown, accounting for a significant portion of Stroud’s passing yards.
With the season still in its early stages, the Texans face an uphill battle. They’ll need to turn things around quickly if they want to stay competitive in their division and have a chance at making the playoffs. Their next game against the Tennessee Titans is crucial. A win is very important to change the course of the season.
