A performer associated with Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show has been detained after displaying a flag combining symbols of Sudan and Palestine, which included the words “Sudan” and “Gaza.”
According to the NFL, this individual was part of a large cast of 400 performers on the field during the event. The New Orleans Police Department announced that they are currently reviewing the situation to determine what charges may be applicable.
NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy confirmed that the individual will face a lifetime ban from attending any NFL games or events in the future. The performer managed to conceal the flag until late in the show, utilizing a car that was part of Lamar’s stage setup to reveal it.
The NFL stated that no one involved in the production was aware of the performer’s actions prior to the flag being displayed. Roc Nation, the company responsible for producing the halftime show, clarified that this act was not planned and did not happen during any rehearsals.
Despite this incident, the halftime show proceeded without interruptions, and the performer did not appear on the broadcast of Lamar’s performance.
