A man in North Carolina is going to prison for a long time after admitting he killed his mother. He had originally told the police that someone else broke into their house and shot her.
Donald Fink will be in prison for at least 28 years, maybe up to 35. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Police went to the house after getting a call about a possible break-in. They found Donald’s mother, Debra “Debbie” Fink, who was 65 years old, had been shot in the face. She died at the scene.
Donald told the police that someone had broken into the house and shot his mother.
But, the police said that Donald didn’t tell the same story twice about what he was doing when his mother was killed.
A few days later, Donald admitted that he made up the story about the break-in. He said he kicked in the door and then called 911. He also said he was holding the gun when it went off, but that it was an accident.
The police found Donald’s DNA on the gun and the part of the gun that holds the bullets. They also found gunshot residue on his hands.
People told the police that they saw Donald with the gun after the shooting. They also said that he had pointed it at another woman earlier that day. The witnesses also said that they didn’t see anyone go in or out of the house before the shooting.
The gun that was used to kill Debra was hers. She had reported it stolen a few months before.
The police said that Debra was recovering from knee surgery and couldn’t walk without help. People also told the police that Debra was scared of her son. They said that he had stolen money from her and threatened to shoot her in the past.
Debra’s sisters said in court that they were relieved that the case was over.
