Mary Lou Retton’s family is expanding, and the news couldn’t be more joyful! The former Olympic gymnast, now 57 years old, recently celebrated the arrival of her eldest daughter Shayla Schrepfer’s first child. This special moment was shared with fans on Instagram.
On February 12, Shayla delighted her followers by revealing that she had welcomed a baby boy. In her post, she showed off two outfits, one pink and one blue, captioning it with excitement about her new arrival. “BABY SCHREPFER IS A… ????” she teased. Later in the post, she confirmed the happy news with “BOY 🩵,” showing her newborn son dressed in blue.
The little one, named Sullivan Wyatt Schrepfer, arrived weighing 6 pounds and 7 ounces and measuring 19 inches long on February 11. Shayla and her husband, Wyatt, expressed their overwhelming joy, calling their baby “OUR EVERYTHING!!!”
Shayla’s sister McKenna reacted to the news with a light-hearted comment, expressing her excitement. This moment is particularly special for Mary Lou Retton, who is already a proud grandmother as Shayla’s sister Skyla had welcomed a baby girl just a week earlier.
In August 2024, Shayla revealed her pregnancy, sharing her excitement with a heartfelt Instagram post. Holding ultrasound pictures and smiling alongside Wyatt, they anticipated the arrival of their little one, expressing their gratitude for the gift of a child.
Mary Lou has shared her enthusiasm about being a grandmother, wanting to be known as “LouLou,” a name she finds adorable and distinct from other traditional grandmother titles. She’s already planning on spoiling her grandchildren much more than she did with her own daughters, promising fun-filled days of play and laughter.
This new chapter in Retton’s life is a wonderful addition to her family story, filled with love and hope for the future.
