LIMA, Peru — Colombian music icon Shakira has had to cancel her concert in Lima scheduled for Sunday after being hospitalized for an abdominal condition, she announced via social media.
In an emotional message posted on Instagram and X, Shakira expressed her sadness over not being able to perform, saying, “I am very sad that I will not be able to take the stage today. I have been deeply emotional and excited about reuniting with my beloved Peruvian audience.”
The singer arrived in Peru on Friday, where she was set to perform not just on Sunday but also on Monday. This concert was part of her Latin American tour, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,” which recently kicked off in Brazil. Shakira received a warm welcome in Lima, with large crowds gathering at the airport to greet her. “Thank you for such an emotional welcome, Lima!” she had shared with fans online.
Shakira is optimistic about a speedy recovery, mentioning, “My plan is to perform this show as soon as possible. My team and the promoter are already working on a new date.”
This tour is in support of her latest album, which channels her experiences from her highly publicized divorce into her music. The album includes the hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” and was recently honored with the Best Latin Pop Album award at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Following her Latin American shows, Shakira’s tour is set to continue to Canada and the U.S. in May, with a series of concerts planned through June.
