Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — Rapper Sean Kingston is set to face sentencing in South Florida this Friday after being found guilty of a significant fraud scheme amounting to $1 million.
Kingston, officially known as Kisean Paul Anderson, along with his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, was convicted by a federal jury in March on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four related counts. While Turner was sentenced to five years in prison last month, Kingston’s sentencing was delayed.
The duo was apprehended in May 2024 during a SWAT raid at Kingston’s rented mansion in suburban Fort Lauderdale. During the raid, Turner was taken into custody, while Kingston was arrested at Fort Irwin, an Army training facility in California, where he was performing.
Court documents reveal that from April 2023 to March 2024, Kingston manipulated social media to acquire high-end products. After securing deals, he would invite sellers to his upscale Florida residences, assuring them of promotion on his social media platforms.
Investigators stated that Kingston and his mother sent fake wire receipts for luxury items, which included a bulletproof Escalade and expensive watches. However, when payments failed to process, victims often found themselves repeatedly reaching out to Kingston and Turner, only to receive little to no response or payments after legal action was taken.
Born in Florida and raised in Jamaica, Kingston rose to fame at just 17 with his hit song “Beautiful Girls” in 2007. He is also known for other popular tracks such as “Take You There” and “Fire Burning.”
