The family of a 9-year-old boy named Julian Galloway is facing an additional challenge as they navigate the heartbreaking journey of his battle with brain cancer. Scammers, seizing upon the family’s plight, have begun to exploit Julian’s story by creating fake accounts on social media platforms like TikTok, aimed at swindling generous individuals who wish to help.
Julian’s father, Lee Galloway, expressed his shock and disappointment at these disturbing actions. “It’s very disheartening. People out there will do anything to make a quick buck,” he remarked, emphasizing the painful reality that while they are fighting for Julian’s life, others are preying on their situation for profit.
Diagnosed with medulloblastoma in December 2019, Julian was originally given a grim prognosis of six months to a year to live. However, through his courage and determination, he has continued to fight and has defied the odds for more than five years now. His journey has been shared widely on social media, where his family has documented their struggles and triumphs.
The Galloway family’s awareness of these fraudulent activities began in May when they discovered that imposters were using Julian’s likeness to solicit donations via platforms like PayPal. These false accounts not only harmed the family financially but also muddied the waters for people sincerely wishing to contribute to Julian’s medical fund.
Despite the family’s efforts to report these fake accounts to social media platforms, the process has proven to be a frustrating ordeal. Lee Galloway shared how difficult it can be to demonstrate how individuals have been victimized by these scams, stating that they have had to navigate complex reporting systems just to have the fake profiles removed. Although they have seen a reduction in these scammers, new accounts continue to emerge, often featuring updated photos that the family had shared moments earlier on their own social media pages.
In February, in a heartwarming event showcasing his spirit, Julian was honored as an honorary NYPD detective. He is also set to receive an inspiration award at the Blue Lives Matter NYC Archangel Gala later this month, further highlighting his bravery and the impact of his story.
Julian has now established his own official TikTok page, @teamjulianofficial, where he continues to document his fight against cancer and raise awareness about the scams impacting his family. His father believes it’s essential to keep Julian’s story alive and visible to the public. “I still want his story out there. He’s been battling for five years and is still defying odds,” said Galloway, showcasing a spirit of resilience amidst adversity.
As the family continues to advocate for awareness regarding the fraudulent activities exploiting their situation, it serves as a poignant reminder of the lengths to which some individuals may go for monetary gain, particularly when it involves the suffering of others. Thankfully, the Galloways have also received heartfelt support from the community, highlighting that there are still many who are genuinely kind and willing to help those in need.
In the face of adversity, Julian Galloway and his family stand firm, inspiring others through their resilience and determination. Rather than allowing the deceitful actions of a few to overshadow their efforts, they remain committed to sharing Julian’s journey, which is not only a testament of strength against cancer but also an important reminder of the good that can come from unity and support in difficult times. The family’s battle is far from over, but with their heads held high, they continue to fight against both cancer and the scammers who wish to take advantage of their plight.
