Ricki Lake has a heartfelt message for her fans as she copes with the aftermath of the recent devastating fires in Los Angeles. In a poignant video posted on her Instagram, the 56-year-old “Hairspray” star described the situation as “surreal,” especially after discovering a fraudulent account posing as her and soliciting money.
“I am not asking for any money for myself,” Lake emphasized. “I’m not sure what happened, but I think that post may be gone now.”
She plans to donate to various organizations that support fire victims and intends to establish a matching fund for others who want to contribute. However, she made it clear that she is not seeking donations for herself.
“If you see a GoFundMe account with my name asking for money, that is not me,” she asserted.
Lake recently lost her home in Malibu due to the Palisades Fire, calling it her “dream home.” She expressed her heartbreak, sharing that a courageous attempt was made by friends to save the house, but it ultimately did not survive. “It’s all gone,” she wrote, reflecting on the loss of the place where she envisioned spending her later years.
While discussing the tragedy, she expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received. “I’m so deeply moved by the love and support from everyone,” she said. “We are all going through this difficult time together in Los Angeles.”
Lake acknowledged the struggle many face, stating, “My heart bleeds for those dealing with similar losses. I know I’m lucky in many ways, but I am still devastated for my community.” She emphasized that this experience feels different from the challenges she faced in the past, as it impacts an entire community rather than just individual homes.
As she wrapped up her emotional message, Lake expressed hope for recovery and unity, urging everyone to come together in kindness and resilience. “We will get through this as a community and as a human family,” she said. “There is a lot of goodness out there, and that’s what we need to hold on to.”
