An Ohio man has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing his daughter following an argument over smoking indoors.
Franklin Thompson, 64, has been charged with murder in connection to the death of his 24-year-old daughter, Heather. He is currently being held on a bond set at $1 million.
Authorities responded to the family’s home in Cincinnati after Thompson’s other daughter found Heather shot and called for help. Deputies took over resuscitation efforts before Heather was rushed to Bethesda North Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The conflict reportedly started over a disagreement about smoking in their home. Hamilton County Assistant Prosecutor David Hickenlooper indicated that during the bond hearing, Thompson allegedly shot his daughter multiple times before leaving the house.
Thompson was found nearby by the police with a gun in his pocket. Reportedly, there were blood stains on his clothing as well. In a confession to the police, he acknowledged that he shot Heather.
A family friend, Kierra Houston, expressed her disbelief, saying that Thompson was generally a good father and that this incident was unimaginable given their long-standing relationship with the family.
