Richard Sterban, a beloved member of the Oak Ridge Boys, recently shared some difficult news with his fans. The 82-year-old singer announced that he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
In a statement released on the band’s website, Sterban explained that he received the diagnosis in March. He expressed confidence in his medical team and his faith, saying, “I am under the care of the best cancer doctors in the country and, with the help of the Good Lord above, I believe I will be able to get through this.”
Sterban, known for his deep bass voice, has been a part of the Oak Ridge Boys for over half a century, joining the group in 1972. He was last seen performing with the band in May at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
The news comes a year after the passing of fellow Oak Ridge Boys member, Joe Bonsall, who died due to complications from ALS. Bonsall had stepped away from touring earlier in the year due to his declining health.
Sterban has expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support he has received. “I want to thank everyone, especially the fans, for your concern, and I would appreciate your continued prayers,” he said. He remains optimistic and hopes to rejoin the band on the road in the coming months.
