In contrast, the Midwest and mid-Atlantic regions are forecasted to receive only rain, as temperatures remain well above freezing. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in cities such as Chicago, Pittsburgh, New York City, and Philadelphia, which might lead to localized flooding in some areas.
Washington, D.C. is also in the rain’s path, where recovery efforts are ongoing following a tragic accident that occurred earlier in the week. The continuous rainfall may hinder efforts in some neighborhoods, creating additional challenges for first responders and recovery teams.
Interestingly, many areas are experiencing a dry January, with this storm serving as a much-needed source of moisture. Several locations have recorded their driest Januarys on record, with some ranking among the top three, five, or ten driest.
