For over 35 years, the loved ones of Ronnie and Doreen Jack have been left with unanswered questions about their disappearance on the night of August 1, 1989.
Ronnie and Doreen, an Indigenous Canadian couple, had two young boys, Ryan, aged 4, and Russell, aged 9. They were last heard from just before they accepted a stranger’s offer for a ride and a temporary job at a logging camp. Facing financial difficulties, they decided to take the chance.
Sadly, after getting into the man’s pickup truck, hoping for a brighter future, the Jack family vanished. Even decades later, investigators remain puzzled about their fate, while the family continues to seek awareness and information about their loved ones.
### The Jacks: A Loving Family
Ronnie and Doreen met in school, and their bond grew stronger when Doreen moved in with Ronnie’s family after her father’s death. This led them to become high school sweethearts and eventually start a family together.
Ronnie’s mother, Mabel, remembers them as a joyful couple with a loving relationship. However, by August 1989, Ronnie was desperate for employment, which led him to accept an unusual job offer from a stranger he had met at a local pub.
### Meeting the Stranger
On that fateful night, Ronnie was at a pub around four blocks from their home when he encountered the man offering him a short-term job at a logging camp. According to reports, this job was supposed to include daycare for their children. Ronnie called his mother to share the news, telling her they were expected to work for ten days before returning home. Unfortunately, that was the last time they were ever heard from.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police believe the couple and their boys left home and climbed into a dark-colored pickup truck with this unknown man.
“I was the last one to talk to Ronnie,” Mabel recalled. “He mentioned he was going to work near Clucluz Lake, and if I didn’t hear from him, I should come looking. Something felt off about the whole situation.”
### Ongoing Search for Answers
It has been over three decades since the Jack family disappeared, and very few clues have surfaced regarding their whereabouts or what happened on that night. The only significant lead came in 1996 from an anonymous caller who claimed the family was buried on a ranch. This tip was never followed up, as the caller hung up quickly, and the case has since been stagnant.
Doreen’s sister, Marlene Jack, remains committed to finding her sister. She and other family members continue to search for answers. “I love my sister with all my heart. I miss her,” Marlene expressed passionately during a vigil for the Jack family last year. “I will never give up. I will always be here, and if anyone knows anything, I hope they come forward.”
