Miami has jumped ahead of LSU and Penn State to claim the No. 2 position in the latest college football rankings, trailing only Ohio State. This ranking marks a significant moment for the Hurricanes, who have showcased their strength by defeating two ranked opponents, including a decisive 19-point victory over Florida.
Meanwhile, Penn State, which held the No. 2 spot since the preseason, had no games this week and slipped to No. 3. Similarly, LSU fell to No. 4 after a comfortable win against Southeastern Louisiana.
Georgia and Oregon maintain their rankings at No. 5 and No. 6, followed closely by Oklahoma at No. 7. The Sooners managed a notable win over a previously ranked Auburn team, marking their return to the top 10 for the first time in two years. Florida State, Texas A&M, and Texas round out the top 10.
Ohio State had a bye week but still garnered 52 out of 66 first-place votes from voters. Miami received seven, while Penn State had five first-place votes, with Oregon and Oklahoma each claiming one.
In other notable movements, Indiana surged into the No. 11 spot after a dominant 63-7 victory over Illinois. This win came after Indiana faced questions about their earlier schedule, which many considered weak.
Texas Tech climbed five spots to No. 12 following a 24-point win over Utah, achieving success even with their backup quarterback playing a significant portion of the game.
In and out of the rankings, TCU earned its first regular-season ranking since 2022 after defeating SMU, while BYU also re-entered the rankings after winning against East Carolina. Utah and Auburn dropped out of the top 25.
Looking ahead, fans are excited about several upcoming matchups. Noteworthy games include No. 4 LSU visiting No. 13 Mississippi and No. 6 Oregon taking on No. 3 Penn State. Georgia and Alabama will also clash, adding to the anticipation of what promises to be an engaging football season.
