Memphis Gets Federal Help to Fight Crime
Memphis, Tennessee is receiving support from the federal government to help tackle its crime problem. High-ranking officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Attorney General Pam Bondi, visited Memphis on Wednesday to show their support for the Memphis Safe Task Force. This task force is part of President Trump’s plan to help the city become safer.
These officials met with Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, who is a Republican and supports the task force. They saw where the task force will be working and spoke to law enforcement officers from different levels of government, as well as members of the Tennessee National Guard.
Stephen Miller, a White House official, said the task force has the full support of the government and will make Memphis much safer. He believes this will lead to more businesses and investments coming to the city, making it more prosperous.
Secretary Hegseth assured the officers that the government is behind them and wants them to be able to do their jobs safely.
The task force has already made over 50 arrests in just two days. It includes over 200 officers, some from immigration and drug enforcement agencies. They are working on arresting criminals with warrants and helping state agencies with traffic stops.
While some have criticized the deployment, saying the city needs more resources to fight poverty, others see it as a welcome addition to the fight against violence.
