A man from New Hampshire has been charged with the tragic stabbing deaths of a woman and her young son. Authorities believe the victims were the man’s girlfriend and their 2-year-old child.
The adult victim has been identified as Hailey Miller. Police discovered her and the child in an apartment on Meloy Road around 9 p.m., following reports of screams coming from the residence.
Witnesses reported that shortly after the screams, a man jumped through a window on the second floor. West Haven Police Sergeant Scott Allard confirmed that Miller was in a relationship with the suspect, who is believed to be the father of the child.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jevon Tyrese Fletcher, faces two counts of murder, two additional counts related to murder, and one count of risk of injury. After being treated at a hospital, Fletcher appeared in court where his bail was set at $3 million.
It remains unclear if he has hired a lawyer. During the hearing, the judge instructed Fletcher not to have any contact with the families of the victims or any potential witnesses.
Miller was known for her kindness and was studying to become a nurse. Her cousin, Nicolette Nealy, spoke highly of her, describing Miller as intelligent, caring, and deeply devoted to her son Jaxon. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral costs and to secure funds for Jaxon’s future.
Fletcher is scheduled to return to court on March 13. At this time, officials have not released further details about the ongoing investigation.
