A man recently shared his struggles on Reddit as he confronts pressure from his girlfriend and mother regarding his cherished dog. He is a 29-year-old who had reservations about getting a new pet after losing his previous dog but decided to adopt a Belgian Malinois puppy born to his girlfriend’s family dog.
In his post, he expressed that abandoning the dog would feel like losing a part of himself. “If I am forced to abandon my dog, I would sell everything and disappear,” he stated, showcasing the strong connection he has formed with his pup.
The issue arose after the couple took in the puppy together, but the man revealed that his girlfriend has not been proactive in helping with the dog’s care. He mentioned how she often sighs when asked to contribute to the dog’s needs, such as feeding and walking. Consequently, he has been dedicating four to five hours a day to ensure the puppy is well taken care of, despite the challenges he faces, including the dog’s tendencies to chew on shoes and slippers.
To tackle these issues, they sought help from a training center. However, the trainer deemed the dog “untrainable” due to difficulties adapting to the training environment. It was suggested that the pup may require two handlers to walk properly.
After this evaluation, both the man’s girlfriend and mother, who lives with them, expressed that their lives would be easier without the dog. Despite their views, the man remains committed to keeping his beloved pet, caught between his love for the dog and the pressures he faces from those around him.
Many users on Reddit offered their opinions, suggesting that one trainer’s assessment should not be taken as the final word. Some encouraged the man to find a trainer who specializes in Belgian Malinois, as they are known to be intelligent yet challenging to train.
As this man’s story unfolds, it highlights the challenges pet owners may face and the importance of commitment in pet ownership.
