A man in Tennessee has been charged with first-degree murder after reportedly confessing to killing his pregnant girlfriend.
According to the Spring Hill Police Department, 29-year-old Vidol Wegner, who is from Indiana, was taken into custody on January 20. This followed the discovery of a 30-year-old woman’s body at a residence in Maury County.
Police responded to a call for help around 6 a.m. that day, which came from Wegner himself, as reported by the Spring Hill PD.
The woman, identified as Ariel Nevills, was found with fatal injuries and was pregnant at the time of her death. Local sources noted that she and Wegner were in a relationship.
A police affidavit reveals that Wegner admitted to strangling Nevills with both hands around her neck and his forearm. He allegedly mentioned that he used two different methods to ensure her and their unborn child’s death, indicating he waited until she was dead before leaving the home.
In an interview from jail, Wegner claimed that Nevills “chose” the situation. When asked about the act, he suggested that she was responsible for the outcome, saying he had plans for their future together.
Wegner described a conversation they had about the pregnancy, stating that when she found out about it, she had wanted to keep the baby, which he claimed contradicted their earlier discussions.
Nevills, originally from Valparaiso, Indiana, had served in the Illinois Army Reserves and worked as a union millwright, according to an obituary. She is survived by her parents, six siblings, and many other family members and friends who remembered her as a bright light in their lives.
Wegner is facing two counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 3.
