The quarterback has now led the Kansas City Chiefs to a victory in each divisional round game he’s played, making it look easy as they beat the Houston Texans 23-14 on Saturday, securing their spot in the AFC Championship for the seventh year in a row.
In this latest game, Mahomes connected with his close friend Travis Kelce multiple times, completing seven passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. The Chiefs’ defense was equally impressive, sacking Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud eight times throughout the match.

On the other side, the Texans struggled, with Stroud throwing for 245 yards but falling victim to the relentless Chiefs defense. Despite Joe Mixon scoring Houston’s only touchdown with an 88-yard rushing performance, the Texans were plagued by missed opportunities, including a failed 55-yard field goal attempt and a crucial extra point that was blown wide.
“Knowing what we were up against in this game, we can’t make the mistakes that we made,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans acknowledged, pointing to multiple errors that derailed their chances.
