Liam Payne’s father, Geoff Payne, is facing a defamation lawsuit from Roger Nores, a friend of Liam who passed away. The lawsuit was filed in Florida and claims that Geoff made false statements that have harmed Nores’ reputation and resulted in damages exceeding $10 million.
Nores asserts that Geoff’s sworn statements, made to Argentine authorities, were not only incorrect but also shared with the media, causing substantial damage in areas like Palm Beach County, Florida. In his 263-page complaint, Nores argues that his relationship with Liam was misrepresented and stresses that he was merely a close friend of the late musician.
Nores also stated that any financial gains from this legal action will benefit Liam’s son, Bear. He expressed his intent to donate the proceeds to Bear and emphasized that Geoff should retract his statements, which he believes mischaracterize his role in Liam’s life. Nores stated, “Liam, who I miss every day, was my dear friend and an independent, brilliant, respectful free man who did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.”
In the lawsuit, Nores claims that he has suffered significant reputational damage as a result of Geoff’s comments. He attempted to resolve the matter amicably by sending a retraction letter to Geoff’s attorneys, but the estate of Liam Payne declined his request, alleging that Nores was trying to interfere with a police investigation. They expressed support for Geoff, stating he has not harmed Nores in any way.
Geoff’s statements were related to the events leading up to Liam’s tragic death in October. The lawsuit details that Geoff had claimed he only communicated with Liam through Nores and Liam’s girlfriend. In contrast, Nores argues that Geoff’s family had direct contact with Liam.
Nores refuted claims about being part of any “care group” for Liam, stating he never agreed to that role but was simply a friend. He disputed Geoff’s assertion that friends and professionals monitored Liam during his treatment in Florida, insisting that he never had access to Liam’s finances or was obligated to help him.
This lawsuit comes shortly after several individuals in Argentina faced charges related to Liam’s death. There are ongoing legal matters concerning those who allegedly contributed to Liam’s tragic fall, including charges of manslaughter against hotel staff and those within Liam’s circle.
Geoff and representatives for Liam’s estate have yet to comment on the lawsuit.
