A landlord in Florida has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot his tenant during a dispute about a thermostat.
According to a police report, Adam Louis Anson, 37, was charged after he shot his tenant, identified as 57-year-old Carlos Alberto Gonzalez. The incident took place in Westchester, a neighborhood located around 12 miles from downtown Miami.
On the morning of January 25, Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene at around 8:00 a.m. The report states that Anson approached Gonzalez’s apartment, which is on the same property as his own, with a semiautomatic pistol in hand. He knocked on the window in an attempt to enter the unit, wanting to adjust the hallway thermostat.
When Gonzalez opened the door, Anson allegedly forced his way inside and began attacking him unprovoked. The confrontation escalated, leading Anson to drag Gonzalez outside to the backyard, where he reportedly shot him multiple times in the head.
After the shooting, Anson returned to Gonzalez’s apartment to change the thermostat before calling 911 to report the incident. He claimed during the call that Gonzalez had tried to hit him and that he acted in self-defense.
When deputies arrived, they found Gonzalez with several gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Anson was taken into custody and is facing charges of second-degree murder and armed burglary. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 27.
