After a brief suspension, Jimmy Kimmel Live! is back on ABC. The show was pulled temporarily following Kimmel’s remarks about conservative figure Charlie Kirk.
ABC’s parent company, Disney, stated that the show returned after discussions with Kimmel, emphasizing a desire to avoid inflaming tensions.
However, not all viewers will be able to watch the show on their local ABC stations. Broadcasting groups Sinclair and Nexstar have decided to continue to not air the program on their affiliated stations.
Sinclair, which owns a large number of ABC affiliates, had demanded that Kimmel apologize directly to the Kirk family and donate to Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA, before lifting the suspension. They stated that they want to ensure appropriate standards are upheld on their broadcast platforms.
Nexstar is also sticking with its decision, awaiting assurance of respectful dialogue.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs at 11:35 p.m. EST.
If your local ABC station is owned by Sinclair or Nexstar, you may not be able to watch the show through that channel. Sinclair owns ABC stations in many markets, including Seattle, Washington D.C., St. Louis, Tulsa, Portland, and Rochester. Nexstar has ABC stations in cities such as Salt Lake City, Nashville, New Orleans, and New Haven.
Sinclair plans to replace Jimmy Kimmel Live! with news programming, while Nexstar stations will focus on local news and other community-relevant content.
For those unable to watch on traditional TV, streaming options like DirecTV, Fubo, and Hulu + Live TV offer access to live ABC broadcasts. Episodes are also often available on Hulu the following day.
