Kate Gosselin, known for the reality show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” is sharing her approach to Christmas budgeting as a single mother of eight. She emphasizes the importance of careful planning, especially in challenging financial times.
Gosselin explained on social media that she starts each November by asking her children for detailed gift lists, complete with specific information like sizes, colors, and prices, to take advantage of holiday sales.
Kate, who shares twins Madelyn and Cara (25) and sextuplets Aaden, Leah, Alexis, Joel, Collin, and Hannah (21) with her ex-husband, Jon Gosselin, aims for fairness in her spending. She sets a target budget for each child and tries to stick to it. If one child’s list goes over budget, she adjusts the others to match, ensuring everyone is treated equally.
To maintain fairness, Gosselin creates a decorated box of cash for each child, inspired by her own mother’s tradition. Some children who ask for less may receive more cash in their boxes.
Gosselin also buys one larger, shared gift for all her children. As her children have gotten older, she wraps every gift to make Christmas morning last longer.
After her reality TV fame, Kate is working as a nurse. She says providing for eight children, covering college funds, and legal costs consumed her income from the show.
Gosselin says she’s determined to make Christmas special for her children, regardless of her financial situation.
