Indonesia School Collapse: Students Trapped, Questions Arise
SIDOARJO, Indonesia – Rescue efforts continue as dozens of students remain trapped after a building at an Islamic school collapsed. The incident has sparked concerns about building safety and oversight.
Reports indicate that at least 91 students are still under the rubble after the collapse, which occurred Monday afternoon. Emergency personnel are working to free those trapped.
Tragically, three deaths have been confirmed, and approximately 100 people have been injured. The collapse took place at the Al Khoziny Islamic boarding school in East Java province, a school with a long history.
The building was undergoing an expansion, and authorities have stated that the work was not authorized. Preliminary investigations suggest the original structure may not have been strong enough to support the additional floors that were being added.
Rescuers are providing oxygen, water, and food to those trapped, while carefully working to avoid further collapse. The focus is on saving lives and ensuring the safety of both the students and the rescue teams. This incident raises important questions about construction regulations and the need for proper permits to ensure the safety of our communities, especially our children.
