An Indiana man has been charged with murder after the death of his wife. Terry Ogle, 79, is accused of killing his 76-year-old wife, Mary.
The police received a 911 call from Ogle around 1 p.m. on January 17, where he allegedly admitted to “bludgeoning” his wife to death. When the 911 operator asked him about the situation, he said there had been some violence. He reportedly stated, “She’s deceased,” and mentioned that she had been down for a while.
When asked if he needed help with CPR, Ogle responded, “It’s too late.” He also told the dispatcher that the couple had not been arguing but that he had lost control, suggesting he believed Mary was having an affair.
Upon arriving at their home, police discovered Mary lying on her back in a bedroom with visible signs of head trauma. The lower part of her body was covered with a blanket, and there appeared to be blood on the pillow next to her. Further investigation in the house revealed blood in several locations, including a reclining chair and the kitchen.
Officers later took Ogle to the hospital due to a self-inflicted wound on his wrist, as well as high blood pressure. They found two hammers, clothing items, several knives, and pieces of carpet and furniture at the scene.
A neighbor, Robert Smith, expressed shock at the incident, recalling that the couple often walked the neighborhood together and were friendly individuals. “I just didn’t think anything like this would happen around here,” he said.
Ogle is set to appear in court on March 11, but it is not clear if he has entered a plea, as his attorney has not commented on the case.
