Tragic Train Collision in India Raises Questions About Infrastructure
Bilaspur, India – A passenger train collided with a stationary cargo train in central India on Tuesday, resulting in at least seven fatalities and numerous injuries. The accident occurred near Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, prompting immediate rescue efforts.
Government official Sanjay Agarwal reported that the passenger train struck the cargo train from behind, with one of the passenger cars ending up on top of a freight car. Rescue teams are working to free trapped passengers, but their condition remains uncertain. Approximately a dozen injured individuals have been transported to local hospitals, with one in critical condition.
Indian Railways has mobilized resources for the rescue operation and initiated an inquiry into the cause of the accident. Chhattisgarh’s top elected official, Vishnu Deo Sai, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
