The Left’s relentless attacks on law enforcement have opened the door for this kind of sloppy, potentially dangerous hiring practices. The safety of our communities is at stake, and we can’t afford to compromise on the quality of those sworn to protect us.

Trump’s ICE Expansion: A Necessary Evil Gone Wrong?
When President Trump vowed to crack down on illegal immigration, we conservatives cheered. But a report reveals that the rush to fulfill his promise may have led to cutting corners in the hiring process at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This should serve as a cautionary tale.
The focus on speed over quality has apparently resulted in the hiring of individuals with, shall we say, interesting pasts. Bankruptcies, allegations of misconduct, and even struggles to complete basic police academy training are just the tip of the iceberg.
Red Flags Ignored: Who Are These New ICE Agents?
Let’s talk about a few examples. Carmine Gurliacci, for instance, filed for bankruptcy twice and hopped between six law enforcement agencies in three years before landing a gig at ICE. Another agent, Andrew Penland, was sued for allegedly making a false arrest. The county paid $75,000 to settle the case. Then there’s Antonio Barrett, who initially failed to graduate from the police academy.
Financial instability and a history of bending the rules are huge red flags. Are these the kinds of people we want enforcing our nation’s immigration laws? I think not.
Will the Left Let ICE Do Its Job?
Of course, the Left will use this as another excuse to defund and dismantle ICE. They don’t care about securing our borders or enforcing our laws. They’d rather see chaos and open borders. That’s their goal, to fundamentally change the U.S.
We conservatives believe in strong borders and the rule of law. We want ICE to do its job effectively. But that requires hiring qualified individuals and providing them with proper training, which is something even an ICE instructor has complained about.
The Department of Homeland Security acknowledges some applicants received “tentative selection letters” before full background checks were completed. This is a recipe for disaster. We cannot sacrifice thorough vetting for the sake of speed. It’s not worth the long-term damage that unqualified people will create.
We must demand accountability and ensure that those entrusted with enforcing our laws are held to the highest standards. Otherwise, we risk undermining the very principles we seek to uphold.
Will these reported issues give the Left the ammo they need to further defund and ultimately destroy ICE?
