Sammy Hagar, the voice behind rock anthems, is showing no signs of slowing down. At 78, the singer-songwriter is keeping busy with new projects, including a live album and a Las Vegas residency.
Hagar’s new live album comes after his band played nine shows at the Park MGM in Las Vegas. He explained that recording all 33 shows from “The Best of All Worlds” tour allowed them to create an album from different nights, capturing the unique energy of live performances.
“The last two nights, we just started having so much fun… they were magic again,” Hagar said, highlighting the importance of capturing the spontaneous energy of a live show. He emphasized that while live versions might not be technically perfect, the energy and connection with the audience bring a new level of excitement to the music.
Hagar credits his fans for keeping him energized, stating that their enthusiasm rejuvenates him even when he feels exhausted. He prioritizes making his fans happy, stating, “I care about the fans.”
Looking back on his career, Hagar acknowledges his good fortune. “I’m so fortunate to be in the position I’m in… Everything I’ve done has been successful, and I gotta say I’m so lucky, I would never take that for granted.” He feels a sense of obligation to his fans, always willing to take a picture or sign an autograph.
When asked about his tireless work ethic, Hagar joked, “It’s not work. If it was work, I might have a different opinion.” He finds motivation in the energy of the crowd.
Hagar is also collaborating with Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger on a new song. Kroeger wrote the song with Hagar in mind, even using AI to simulate Hagar’s voice. The recording features Tommy Lee on drums, and Hagar is excited to see where the project goes.
Reflecting on the recent passing of Ozzy Osbourne, Hagar expressed awe at Osbourne’s final performance just days before his death. He said Osbourne’s determination was inspirational.
“He did it, and he did it great,” Hagar said of Osbourne’s final performance. “It just broke my heart that he did it, and then when he died it made me realize two weeks later … how amazing it really was.”
“What a rock and roll — what a master. He’s the master, period,” he added.
Hagar’s new live album, “Sammy Hagar & The Best of All Worlds Band: The Residency,” is now available. He will also be performing his “The Best of All Worlds” residency at the Park MGM in Las Vegas on select dates in March and September of next year.
